How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 291 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 261 of 291 (~90%) for quality reasons. The remaining 30 are what we'd actually surface.
- 256 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 2 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
- 1 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for SimCity (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 120 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to SimCity (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

SimCity: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and save: the SNES port launched in 1991. It is a city builder, so the cartridge needs working save memory to keep a city. The original save battery is a flat coin cell and 30-year-old cells fail, so budget for a replacement even when a seller says "tested". Confirm the listing says it saves, not only that it boots.
- Print variants: an early-run retail print and a later Player's Choice budget reprint both exist. Sellers label both, and the labels are not always right, so match the photos to the label you want rather than trusting the title.
- Manual: the game came with a manual, and it turns up in listings sold alone or with a box and tray. A "CIB" title should show the box, tray and manual in the photos.
- Listing traps: SimCity 2000 is a separate SNES game and its listings use near-identical wording. Japanese Super Famicom copies and PAL cartridges also appear under the same name. Check the label region and product code before buying.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
