How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 184 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 105 of 184 (~57%) for quality reasons. The remaining 79 are what we'd actually surface.
- 73 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 11 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 9 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 6 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 2 priced above the curated ceiling
- 2 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mario Paint (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 110 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mario Paint (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

Mario Paint: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & product code: Nintendo's 1992 SNES art-and-music program, built around the SNES Mouse. Check the product code on the label of the copy you're buying and treat listings without a clear label photo as unverified. It saves your artwork to the cartridge, and 30-year-old save memory can fail, so a "tested" claim should mention saving.
- Mouse and pad: the original release was a software-plus-peripheral set, so "complete" can mean cartridge, mouse, pad, box and manual. Compare asking prices only between listings that include the same pieces. A cartridge-only listing and a full set are different products.
- Print variants: different prints can turn up in listings, so compare photos rather than trusting the title.
- Listing traps:
- Standalone mouse, mouse-pad and manual listings carry "Mario Paint" in the title. The feed drops most of them, but check that the photos show the cartridge.
- Japanese Super Famicom copies appear under the same name; the feed filters them out, but verify the label elsewhere.
- Multi-game lots that name Mario Paint among several titles are filtered out, so the price you see is for the one game.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
