Contra III: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Product code & saving. Check that the code on the label and box reads as the US release; sellers of authentic manuals list it as
SNS-CS-USA. The game has no save battery, so a loose cart has no cell to fail, and "battery replaced" in a listing tells you nothing about it. - Two US prints. Konami's original release and a later Majesco reprint are both on the market. Sellers usually call the reprint the "white label" or "Majesco variant" and list it, raw or graded, as its own thing. Check which publisher is printed on the label and box before you compare asking prices, because the two don't trade as one item.
- Super Famicom imports with the US name. The Japanese release, Contra Spirits, is often titled "Contra III: The Alien Wars" by sellers. A Super Famicom cart has a differently shaped shell and won't seat in a US console without an adapter. The feed drops listings that name Famicom, SFC or Contra Spirits, or that ship from Japan. If a seller doesn't use any of those words, check the photos for a US label.
- Modded and paper-only listings. "SA-1 enhancement" carts, which have a modified board, and stand-alone manuals or boxes sell under the full game title. The feed drops the usual phrasings ("chip mod", "manual only", "no game"), but sellers word these many ways, so read the title before you trust the price.

Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
