Two combo carts carry the same title text: Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt (product code NES-MH-USA on the label) and Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet. They are far more common and ask much less, and the feed keeps them out. Before paying standalone asking, check that the label names only Super Mario Bros. and that the product code doesn't read NES-MH.
- Print variants. Sellers flag early copies with "black box", "5-screw", "hang tab" and "1st print / no TM" callouts. Early-production 5-screw shells and boxes with the hanging retail tab ask above later 3-screw carts and standard boxes. Check the screw count on a photo of the cart's back, and treat a print claim that no photo shows as unverified.

Buying NES games: what to check by condition

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
