How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 728 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 537 of 728 (~74%) for quality reasons. The remaining 191 are what we'd actually surface.
- 305 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 199 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 24 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 4 shipped from a region we exclude
- 2 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
- 2 priced above the curated ceiling
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 115 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Super Mario Bros. 2: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & save: The US NES release is from 1988. The cartridge has no save feature, so there is no save battery to worry about.
- Product code: Check that the label's product code matches the US release. Listings often say "NTSC-U/C", which is the US/Canada region and the one you want.
- Print variants: Early-run and later-reprint copies both exist, and sellers use terms like "first print" and "round seal". Ask for a clear photo of the label and box before paying a premium for any of them. Don't pay extra on the seller's word alone.
- Same name, different game: Japan's "Super Mario Bros. 2" is a separate Famicom Disk System game, not this one. Famicom Mini GBA carts and the 3DS New Super Mario Bros. 2 also carry the title text. Buy only a standard NES cartridge.
- Series siblings: Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 have their own pages. Two- and three-game "Mario" sets are common and price as bundles, not per cart.
- Box-only and manual-only listings regularly use this title. Confirm that the cartridge is actually included.
- Graded sealed copies sit far above every other tier. Verify the grading company's certificate number before paying.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
