How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 497 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 389 of 497 (~78%) for quality reasons. The remaining 108 are what we'd actually surface.
- 351 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 17 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 8 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 5 shipped from a region we exclude
- 4 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 3 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Dr. Mario (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 105 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Dr. Mario (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Dr. Mario: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Save mechanism. None. Dr. Mario is a puzzle game with no battery-backed save, so there is no save battery to worry about on a loose cart. The US NES release is 1990.
- Print variants. Sellers advertise "error print" copies at a premium, and the feed does surface them. Treat the claim as unproven until the listing shows the specific marking clearly, and compare it with a known authentic photo before paying extra. Don't pay for a variant on the seller's word alone.
- Same-title traps.
- The Game Boy cart, the Game Boy Advance "Classic NES Series" cart and the SNES Tetris & Dr. Mario cart all carry the same name. Check the platform in the title and photos.
- NES multi-game lots often put "Dr. Mario" in the title next to Super Mario Bros. and others. They price as bundles, not as a single cart.
- Japanese Famicom carts are a different cartridge shape and don't fit a US NES.
- Boxed-copy tip. Ask for photos of the box, the tray and the manual together. The cart alone can be sold as "complete" when it isn't.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
