How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 4253 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 4236 of 4253 (~100%) for quality reasons. The remaining 17 are what we'd actually surface.
- 4195 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 19 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 14 shipped from a region we exclude
- 5 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mario Bros. (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 111 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mario Bros. (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Mario Bros.: collector & reseller spec sheet
- No save. Mario Bros. is a single-screen arcade port with no battery or password save, so there is no save cell to check on a loose cart.
- Not Super Mario Bros. Sellers shorten both titles to "Mario Bros", so read the full listing title. This page tracks the standalone Mario Bros. cartridge only. Super Mario Bros., its Duck Hunt combo cart and Super Mario Bros. 3 are separate games with their own pages, and the feed rejects titles that name them.
- Series branding. Listings often call it "Arcade Classics Series" or "Arcade Classic". That is the same game, so treat it as a naming variation rather than a different cartridge.
- Thin market. Few standalone copies are listed at any time, so the live feed can be sparse and asking prices swing widely between a loose cart and a boxed copy. Compare several asking prices before acting on one.
- Listing trap. Console bundles, lots, plug-and-play "NES style" systems and the Game Boy Advance Classic NES Series releases all reuse the same words in their titles. The feed filters those, but check the platform on anything you find elsewhere.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
