How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 805 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 718 of 805 (~89%) for quality reasons. The remaining 87 are what we'd actually surface.
- 657 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 18 shipped from a region we exclude
- 18 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 11 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 9 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 5 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Contra (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 125 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Contra (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Contra: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & saving. Konami's US NES release of Contra dates to 1988. The game has no save feature, so there is no battery to fail on a loose cart. Check that the product code on the label matches the US release before you pay a premium for it.
- Prints. Several label and box variations exist across the NES run, and sellers often advertise an early print as worth extra. Treat the claim as something to confirm against photos of a known-authentic copy, and compare asking prices only between like prints.
- "Contra" titles that are really another game. Sellers often put Contra in the title of Super C (the NES sequel, known in Japan as Super Contra) to catch search traffic. Read the label in the photo, not just the title. The feed drops listings that name Super C or Super Contra, so a Super C that doesn't say so can still slip through, and a seller who writes "Contra & Super C" has listed both games.
- Famicom and imports. Japanese Famicom cartridges are titled "Contra" too, sometimes with "NES" in the name. They have a different shell and won't fit a US NES. The feed excludes Japanese-origin sellers and the usual Famicom wording, but photos settle anything ambiguous.
- Not the cartridge. Manual-only, box-only and reproduction listings sell under the full game name, so read the title for what is actually in the box.

Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
