How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 915 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 835 of 915 (~91%) for quality reasons. The remaining 80 are what we'd actually surface.
- 794 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 13 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 11 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 10 shipped from a region we exclude
- 7 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mega Man 2 (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 159 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mega Man 2 (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Capcom released Mega Man 2 for the NES in North America in 1989. It followed the Japanese Famicom release, Rockman 2, and is one of the most-listed Capcom NES carts on eBay. The feed below shows current US-NTSC NES listings from sellers with at least 50 feedback and 99% positive. Use the condition chips (All, Loose, CIB, Sealed) to narrow it down. The sections below explain what each tier should include and what to check before you buy.
What the Mega Man 2 feed shows
The feed covers the original US NES cartridge of Mega Man 2, in any condition. To keep the asking prices comparable, it leaves out listings that a buyer on this page could easily mistake for that cart:
- The iam8bit 30th Anniversary "Legacy Cartridge" (2018). This licensed reissue plays on an NES and is often sold sealed or graded, so in a sealed search it can look like the 1989 cart. It's a separate product with its own prices. The feed drops any listing whose title says
iam8bit,legacyoranniversary. If a seller doesn't name it, you'll have to spot it from the photos (see the gotchas below). - Mega Man II for Game Boy. It's a different game with nearly the same name, and sellers often write it as "Mega Man 2". The feed excludes any listing that says Game Boy.
- Multi-game lots. "Mega Man 1-6" sets, "Mega Man 2 & 3" pairs and mixed NES lots are priced as bundles, so they're excluded.
- Plug-and-play TV games and LCD handhelds. These are standalone devices sold under the Mega Man 2 name. They aren't cartridges.
- Manual-only, box-only and shell-only listings, strategy guides and merchandise.
- Listings that say they're broken, for parts or untested in the title, plus any listing that calls itself a reproduction.
Prices in the feed are asking prices, what sellers are asking right now. Final sale prices are often lower, especially once a CIB seller accepts an offer.
Mega Man 2: loose vs CIB vs sealed
Loose means the cartridge alone, sometimes with a dust sleeve. This is where most listings are, and prices vary mainly with the condition of the label, how clean the shell is, and whether the seller says it's tested. Mega Man 2 saves progress with passwords, not a battery, so there's no save battery to worry about on a loose cart.
CIB (complete in box) means the original cardboard box, the cartridge and the instruction manual. Some CIB listings also mention extra paper inserts, such as a Capcom poster or a registration card. Which inserts came with a given copy varied, so treat them as a bonus, not a requirement for calling it CIB. The box costs the most to replace and is usually what's damaged: crushed corners, torn flaps and spine fade. CIB asking prices sit well above loose ones, and the spread within CIB mostly reflects the condition of the box.
Sealed copies of the 1989 release are rare, and most are graded by WATA, VGA, CGC or PSA. Graded sealed copies can ask in the thousands. Listings also mention variants such as "hangtab" boxes and different seal types, and these affect price. Expect the Sealed chip to be thin or empty a lot of the time. It's a small market, and the iam8bit reissue is excluded so it can't pad this tier.
Mega Man 2 variants & what to look for
- Original US NES release vs the iam8bit reissue. The original is a standard grey NES cartridge. The 2018 reissue came in collector-oriented packaging with modern printing. If a sealed listing at a fraction of graded-sealed prices doesn't say which one it is, ask.
- Box and seal variants on graded copies. Graded listings refer to packaging variants such as a hang-tab box and different seal styles. The grading company's label usually records the variant, so check it against the slab rather than the seller's description.
- US vs PAL vs Famicom. PAL NES copies (sold in Europe and Australia) and the Japanese Famicom Rockman 2 are left out of this page. The Famicom cart is physically smaller and won't fit a US NES without an adapter.
Mega Man 2 verification checklist by condition
Loose
- Check that the label is sharp, flat and not peeling. Blurry small print or off colours suggest a reproduction label.
- The back of the cart should have a Nintendo security screw. A Phillips screw means the cart has been opened. That doesn't make it fake, but look harder at the label and board.
- "Tested" should mean the seller actually played it. If that's the only word in the listing, ask whether it boots to the title screen.
- A loose cart priced far below the others in the feed, or listed as "Brand New", deserves suspicion until the photos show otherwise.
CIB
- Ask for photos of all sides of the box: corners, flaps, the spine, and any price-sticker residue.
- Photograph the manual open as well as closed. Water stains and a worn back cover are the common faults.
- Make sure the cart in the photos is the one that comes with the box. Assembled "CIB" copies built from a separate box and cart do exist.
- If the seller lists extra inserts, check that they're shown in the photos. Don't pay more for them just because they're named in the title.
Sealed (graded)
- Check that the slab is from a recognised grading company and that the cert number can be read. Look the number up on the grader's website before paying top-tier prices.
- Be sceptical of an ungraded "factory sealed" 1989 copy at market price. Resealed boxes exist, and the iam8bit reissue is genuinely sealed but isn't the 1989 release.
Mega Man 2 buying gotchas
- Game Boy cross-listings. Sellers sometimes title the Game Boy Mega Man II as "Mega Man 2" without naming the platform. Check the photos for the much smaller Game Boy cart.
- Famicom imports listed as "NES". Japanese sellers often list Rockman 2 or "Mega Man 2 Famicom" with NES in the title. The cartridge shape gives it away.
- Reissues with an unclear title. A "Mega Man 2 NES Sealed" listing without "iam8bit" in the title may still be the 2018 reissue. The packaging differs from the 1989 box.
- "Mega Man 2 3" double listings. Some sellers sell two carts in one listing with both numbers in the title. The feed catches the common wording, but check how many carts the photos show.
- Seller feedback threshold. The feed only shows sellers with at least 50 feedback and 99% positive. Several cheap Mega Man 2 listings in our sample came from very new accounts.

Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
