How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 48 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 20 of 48 (~42%) for quality reasons. The remaining 28 are what we'd actually surface.
- 18 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 1 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Blades of Steel (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 101 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Blades of Steel (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Blades of Steel: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Publisher and release: Konami's NES hockey game, released in North America in 1988.
- Save mechanism: none. It is a plain cartridge with no save battery, so there is no battery to fail or replace.
- Print variants: an original-run release and a later Konami Classic Series reprint both exist, and sellers use that wording in titles. Treat the variant as a collector detail and compare it against a known authentic photo before paying extra for it.
- Same title, other platforms: Blades of Steel also shipped on Game Boy, and there are later NHL-branded entries with similar names. The feed rejects titles that name Game Boy, but a bare "Blades of Steel" listing with a Game Boy cart in the photos can still slip through, so check the system on the label.
- Listing trap: manuals sold alone and multi-game bundles that mention Blades of Steel in the title are common. The feed filters the obvious ones, but confirm the listing is the cartridge, not just a booklet.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
