How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 70 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 58 of 70 (~83%) for quality reasons. The remaining 12 are what we'd actually surface.
- 55 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 2 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Ice Climber (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 98 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Ice Climber (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Ice Climber: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and save: Ice Climber is a 1985 Nintendo-published NES cartridge with no save mechanism. There is no battery to fail; "tested" only means it boots and plays.
- Product code: check that the label's product code is the US release's and matches photos of a known authentic copy.
- Early-run cartridges: sellers often label copies "3-screw" or "5-screw" in the title, which refers to the number of screws on the back of the cart. Treat it as a seller claim: it is a search hint, not proof of a print, so compare the label and back against authentic photos before paying extra for it.
- Print variants: early sealed and boxed copies are sold under seal-style and box-style names (circle seal, round seal, hang tab). Those terms are seller labels, so ask for photos of the specific marking before paying a premium.
- Same-name trap: the Game Boy Advance "Classic NES Series" Ice Climber is a different product that uses the same title text, and Famicom copies of the same game are common too. The feed filters both by title and location, but check the cart label on any listing with a thin title.
- Manual-only listings: the NES manual circulates by itself, and some sellers list it with only the game's name. Look for a photo of the cartridge itself.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
