- Release & save: Faxanadu is Hudson Soft's 1989 US NES release of the action RPG. It saves by password, so there is no save battery to fail. Sellers often write the label code as
NES-FX-USA; check that the label on the copy you are buying matches the US release. - Print variants: An original retail print is the usual find. We can't name a specific later reprint with confidence, so treat any "rare variant" claim as unverified until the seller shows the label and a clear photo.
- Listing traps: Famicom and PAL copies of the same game turn up regularly, and the feed filters them out. Buy only listings that state NTSC-U/C or US, or whose photos show the US label. Buying NES games: what to check by condition

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
