How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 439 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 416 of 439 (~95%) for quality reasons. The remaining 23 are what we'd actually surface.
- 324 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 69 shipped from a region we exclude
- 22 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Gradius (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 103 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Gradius (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Gradius: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & code: Konami's side-scrolling shooter reached the US NES in 1986. Check that the code on the label matches the US release and not a Famicom or PAL code.
- Saving: none. It is a straight arcade-style cart with no save, so there is no save battery to fail. Cleaning the contacts is usually all a loose copy needs.
- Print variants: many listings advertise a "5-screw" cartridge and a "hangtab" box as early-run markers. Treat those as seller claims: they can lift the asking price on CIB copies, so ask for photos of the shell and box before paying a premium for them.
- Don't confuse it with its siblings: Gradius II, Gradius III and Life Force are different games, and Famicom carts of the original are a different region. The feed only tracks the original US NES release, but the sibling titles still turn up in searches under near-identical names.
- Listing traps: reproduction carts and mislabeled Japanese or PAL copies appear under the same title. Compare the label and cart shell against a known authentic photo, and prefer sellers who show the back of the cart.
- Manual-only and box-only listings carry the title too, so check that a "Gradius NES" listing actually includes the cart.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
