How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 154 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 107 of 154 (~69%) for quality reasons. The remaining 47 are what we'd actually surface.
- 100 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 3 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 114 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Tecmo Super Bowl: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and save: Tecmo's 1991 NES football sequel. Ask for a confirmed save test, and treat "tested" as meaning the game boots, not that it saves.
- Product code: Check that the label's product code matches the US release. A cart whose label code or art doesn't match the NES release is worth a closer look.
- Print variants: An early-run retail print and later reprints may exist, but we can't name the distinguishing mark with confidence. Compare the label against a known authentic photo instead of paying a premium on a seller's say-so.
- Same title, other systems: Tecmo Super Bowl also shipped on SNES, Genesis and PlayStation. Many of those listings spell out only "Super Nintendo" or the platform name, and a few omit the console from the title entirely, so check the photo of the cart.
- Hacked cartridges: Roster and season updates are sold on NES carts under the same name, with years or "Decades" in the title. These are fan edits, not the 1991 game. The feed rejects the ones we've seen, but a hack can be listed with a plain title, so read the label.
- Manuals and inserts: The booklet and quick-reference card are sold alone, and the feed skips those listings.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
