How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 75 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 53 of 75 (~71%) for quality reasons. The remaining 22 are what we'd actually surface.
- 53 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Dragon Warrior III (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 110 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Dragon Warrior III (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Dragon Warrior III: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & saves: Dragon Warrior III is the 1992 US NES release from Enix. Saves are battery-backed, and sellers commonly advertise "tested & saves" or a working battery. The original save battery is a flat coin cell and 30+ year-old cells routinely fail, so budget for a swap regardless of seller claims.
- Print variants: Check the product code on the label matches the US release. Titles carry mixed copyright years (1985, 1989, 1992), so go by photos of the label rather than the year in the title.
- Extras that split the price: Complete copies are sold with a fold-out map and a booklet, and sellers list those pieces separately or mention "no map". Photos should show each piece in the box, not just a mention in the title.
- Listing traps: Manual-only, poster-insert, guide-book and box-only listings use the full game name, as do multi-game Dragon Warrior bundles. The Game Boy Color version is a different cart on its own page. For the other NES games, see Dragon Warrior and Dragon Warrior II.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
