Life Force: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & code: Konami's horizontal/vertical shooter reached the US NES in 1988. Check that the code on the label matches the US release and not a PAL or Famicom code.
- Saving: none. It is a straight arcade-style cart with no save, so there is no save battery to fail. Cleaning the contacts is usually all a loose copy needs.
- Same game, other names: outside the US this shooter is sold as Salamander, and Famicom and PAL copies are listed under both names. The feed tracks the US Life Force release only, so those imports are filtered out.
- Not to be confused with: its sibling shooter Gradius is a different game.
- Listing traps: multi-game lots and "pick and choose" listings carry the title in passing, and manual-only or box-only listings use the same name, so confirm a listing actually includes the cart. - Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
